History of Piddington
Piddington is a village and civil parish about 4.5 miles (7 km) south-east of Bicester in Oxfordshire, England. Its toponym has been attributed to the Old English 'Pyda's tun', meaning a farm or settlement connected with Pyda (The Vocabulary of English Place‑Names, accessed 5 January 2013).
At the 2011 census Piddington had a population of 370.
David Cook has been researching the history of Piddington families for several years. He is presenting the information he has discovered in the form of a blog, Close to the Brook, to which he adds on a regular basis. The Diary section is a lightly fictionalised account of village life in the mid-nineteenth century, but there is much detailed factual information in the other sections.
