History

Close to the Brook

An imagined diary of a labouring man born in Piddington in 1813
Based on real people and real events

David Cook

I am writing this Piddington diary to share some of the things I have learned from studying the history of Piddington village life. There have been some changes over time, and yet, many things have remained the same.  We are always dependent upon the weather, the seasons and the ups and downs of family life.

Although I have spent many years undertaking this research, I have put together the diary and its associated website in just a couple of days. The impetus to do so was the coronavirus pandemic of spring 2020, when many of us were confined to our homes, and my aim was to add something else to Piddington village life in these difficult times.

I plan to add to the diary regularly, so please keep an eye out for new entries.
