Local knowledge

Our aim here is to gather together in one place the sort of useful local information that can be difficult to find unless you know the right person to ask. New residents to Piddington are visited by one of the the Parish Councillors, who will give them a Welcome Pack and an introduction to the community.

We’ve made a start with the list below, but if you are aware of any other snippets of information that might be useful to know, please send them on to us.

Allotments available for rent from the Parish Council and located in Lower End

Book group meets approximately every six weeks at members’ houses in Piddington. Meeting host for evening chooses book for rest of group to read in advance. All genres of book up for discussion. Not actively recruiting new members at present, but if you’re interested, contact me to talk about it

Buses a weekly bus to Bicester runs from the bus stop in Arncott Road every Friday. The bus leaves Piddington at 10.50
and arrives in Bicester at 11.05. It returns from Bicester at 1.20, arriving in Piddington at 1.32. The fare is £2.50 for a single journey, £5 return.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to use bus passes on this service. The buses are run by Charlton Services, 01865 331249.

Consultation  Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council frequently consult the public about various local issues, some of which matter to us in Piddington. Exercise Classes for Mature Movers meets every Monday, 2.00–3.00pm, in the village hall. For information contact Maggie Pearce 01844 237688

Flooding all enquiries regarding land drainage and flood risk and all reports of flooding and near misses should be directed to Oxfordshire County Council 08453 101111 email highwayenquiries@oxfordshire.gov.uk; Oxfordshire County Council – Flooding.

Hospital transport   Age Concern Bernwode have a volunteer scheme that covers Piddington providing transport to hospitals, clinics and doctors’ surgeries. They ask for a donation of £5 per return journey plus parking costs. Contact Julie or Tony Hollingworth on 01844 238478 for more information, to book transport or to volunteer as a driver.

Mobile Greengrocer   calls around 1pm every Thursday, stopping at various points around the village

Parish Council see Piddington Parish Council

Parish Matters newsletter monthly delivery to every household in the parish. Items given to the village collectors by 13th of the month will be included in the next month’s issue. Village collector for Piddington news is Chris Howard 01844 237928 chris.howard38@btinternet.com

Piddington Patchers meet twice a month on Thursday, 10am–2.30pm, in the village hall, to make beautiful quilts from carefully chosen fabric. Not actively recruiting new members at present, but you are welcome to come and see what we do. For information contact Vanessa Burchell 01844 238311

Planning to make a planning application, or to view/comment on a planning application, go to Cherwell District Council Planning; applications can be made online via the Planning Portal or on paper (copies of forms can be downloaded from Cherwell District Council Planning)

Rubbish Collection green bins (general) are collected on alternate Fridays; blue (recycle paper) and brown (any compostable waste) on the other Fridays. All bins/boxes should be put out by 7.00 am on the collection day. For a recycling calendar go to the Cherwell District Council website. To arrange bulky waste collections call 01295 227003. There is a dual pricing scheme, with the cost depending on which of two price lists your item appears on. List 1 is £18 for up to 3 items and list 2 (bulky saver list) is £9 for up to 3 items.
